Silt VALE Victim Assistance

Crime Victims and their families may be eligible to receive payments from the Town of Silt Victim and Witness Assistance and Law Enforcement Board (VALE) for some of the financial loss resulting from violent or property crimes.

Funds for the VALE program comes from fines collected by the Town of Silt Municipal Court. Persons who are convicted of ordinance or traffic violations are assessed a surcharge in addition to their fines. These surcharge funds are used to help crime victims and the Silt Police Department.

Who may apply?

Victims of a compensable crime that occurred within the limits of the Town of Silt and which is within the jurisdiction of the Town of Silt Municipal Court.
Witnesses to a compensable crime that occurred within the limits of the Town of Silt and which is within the jurisdiction of the Town of Silt Municipal Court.
Those who completed a Victim Compensation application form.
Those who fully cooperated with law enforcement officials and continue to cooperate in the prosecution of the perpetrator of the crime.
Those who fully cooperated with law enforcement officials and continue to cooperate in the prosecution of the perpetrator of the crime.

NOTE – If the perpetrator is not apprehended, victims may still apply for compensation.

What can I claim?

Reasonable medical and hospital expenses incurred for dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aides, or other medically necessary devices not covered by insurance.
Services for early crises intervention.
Assistance for prompt return of victim’s property.
Transportation to and from court.
Translation services.
Protection from threats and/or intimidation.
Damage to property not covered by insurance.
Other expenses as approved by the VALE Board.

What can I not claim?

Value of pain and suffering.
Property damage in excess of $1,000.00.
Claims of less than $25.00.
Losses that have been fully compensated from other sources.

How do I apply?

Complete the application, include invoices, receipts, and other verification of loss.
Submit the completed application to the Silt Police Department within one (1) year of the police report.
