The Silt Police Dept serves the Town of Silt located along I-70 in Western Colorado. With a population of 3,600 residents, our officers take pride in proactive policing through community involvement and enforcement through education.

The Silt Police Department’s mission is to serve our community by reducing crime, protecting life, liberty, property, and defending the constitutional rights of all people with compassion, fairness, integrity, and professionalism.

The Silt Police Department will provide the highest quality police services to our community and partner with our community to identify and resolve problems.  We will constantly evaluate and improve our efforts to enhance public safety and improve the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of the Town of Silt.

Silt VALE Victim Assistance

Victim & Witness Assistance (VALE)

Crime Victims and their families may be eligible from the Town of Silt Victim and Witness Assistance and Law Enforcement Board (VALE) for financial loss resulting from violent crimes and property crimes. Funds for the VALE program comes from fines collected by the Town of Silt Municipal Court. Persons who are convicted of ordinance or traffic violations are assessed a surcharge in addition to their fines. These surcharge funds are used to help crime victims and the Silt Police Department.

Off-Highway Vehicles on Town Streets

The Town of Silt allows for Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) including ATV’s, dirt bikes and side-by-sides to be operated under certain conditions within the Town of Silt, but excluding Hwy 6 (Main St) and River Frontage Rd. The Silt Police Department takes great pride in our community policing and outreach programs. Officers participate in several community events per year, including:

Bicycle Rodeo

Each year, Silt Police host a bicycle rodeo for children in the community. At the event, we teach kids how to ride bikes and give children bicycles donated through the generosity of Walmart.

Silt Police partners with neighboring agencies to provide disadvantaged children in our community a special day of holiday shopping made possible by the generosity of local businesses and residents.

Coffee with a Cop

Officers with Silt Police will occasionally host Coffee with a Cop at local coffee shops to provide the public an inviting forum to meet our officers and speak with them about community topics.

POST Certified Police Officer pay range: $31.20 to $38/hour dependent on experience
Academy Trainee starting pay: $27/hr. Pay increase upon graduation and again upon completion of FTO to $31.20/hr
